'Other people's children' is a finalist in the prestigious Fisher's Ghost Art Award
This Painting was inspired by Picasso's ‘Large Bather”. I was thinking about things like the Madonna and child paintings throughout history. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and often, there are many of us who give love and unconditional care to other people's children. We love them like our own. This painting is an acknowledgement of all the love and care step-mums give their stepchildren and grandchildren. I wanted the image to be fairly two-dimensional, with the babies almost disappearing and reappearing in parts because it gives a sense of how it is as a step-parent.
